Guess who’s running for Assessor?
Doug is a lifelong Nebraska resident and experienced county professional running for Assessor/Register of Deeds. With 29 years of county service—including 25 years in the Assessor’s Office—Doug brings a rare combination of institutional knowledge and forward-thinking leadership to the role.
Doug understands that today’s Assessor must do more than maintain records—they must ensure fair, accurate, and transparent property valuations. He has seen how unpredictable increases can strain working families, seniors, and small businesses. Instead of letting values go untouched for years, he wants to make sure properties are reviewed regularly so increases happen slowly and predictably—reducing the burden on taxpayers and keeping things fair.
Throughout his career, Doug has championed modern technology as a tool to improve data quality, reduce duplicated work and increase efficiencies, and provide clear information to the public. He has brought in new appraisal software to the office and leads the implementation to replace an aging system more than 20 years old. This upgrade will improve valuation accuracy, increase transparency, and streamline workflows—benefiting both staff and taxpayers. Doug believes technology should make government easier to understand and more accountable.
“People deserve to understand how their property is valued. Transparency in assessment isn’t just good policy—it’s about fairness, trust, and respect for the taxpayer.”
A graduate of University of Nebraska, Southeast Community College, and Norris High School, Doug has deep roots in the community. He and his wife, Heather, have been married for 30 years, are members of Cathedral of the Risen Christ church, and are proud parents of two grown children, Braden and Brooklyn, both married and living in Lincoln. Heather taught preschool for 26 years at Dimensions Early Education Programs and now works as an Event Coordinator at Venue Restaurant. Doug also volunteered and coached youth football for seven years with the Firefighters program.
As Assessor/Register of Deeds, Doug is committed to bringing proven experience together with modern technology to deliver accurate data, clear public records, transparent valuations, and efficient workflows—all with respect for the taxpayers and the staff who serve them.
